Changeable

1st March 2026

After a cold, dry day yesterday there was some overnight snow and further snow this morning which gradually turned to rain as it died out. The changeable conditions continue with heavy rain for a time tonight and then back to drier and a bit cooler tomorrow.

Although there’s not a great depth of recent snow, stability is poor and cornice triggered avalanches were reported from Ben Nevis this morning. There may well be further cornice collapse and avalanches in the rain tonight before stability improves tomorrow.

Looking down the Goose on Aonach Mor. Not a great day for photos.

Temperatures from 1200 metres on Aonach Mor for the last 5 days. Two mild days, two cold days and a rapid rise in temperature today.
