Another wintery day

30th March 2026

Although it’s nearly the end of March it felt like the middle of winter today; cold, strong winds, occasional snow showers and poor visibility at times. Underfoot conditions were tricky too with breakable crust, icy patches and some deep drifts of soft windslab.

Things will be different tomorrow as the freezing is forecast to go above the summits this evening and there will be some rain at all elevations. This will create wet snow instabilities and avalanches and cornice collapse are likely.

Looking up from near the top of the Quad chair at Nevis Range. This was a very brief blue sky moment!

Sgurr Finnisg-aig catching some sun.

Poor visibility at times, here at 1200 metres on Aonach Mor.

There were some large drifts behind snow fences today.
