Storm Chandra

27th January 2026

There was fresh snow down to around 400 metres with significant drifting on storm force South-Easterly winds today making conditions wintery and difficult even at low elevations. Although there were areas of unstable windslab, other areas were scoured and icy and the new snow was getting blown around but not actually landing in many places.

There’s more snow forecast for tonight but becoming mainly dry with much lighter winds tomorrow as Storm Chandra moves away to the West.

Photo and videos below from 650 metres on Aonach Mor.

The fresh windslab is the whiter snow, sitting on a darker, refrozen older snowpack.

Getting hit by a gust of wind just as I start recording! Take 2 below.

Whiteout conditions at times.
