Settled Morning
7th December 2025
It was a settled morning on Aonach Mor. A bit milder than the past couple of days, but in other ways (cloudy, relatively light winds) it was quite similar. The snowpack is slowly getting damp. However, due to the fact the summit temperature were just above freezing and and there was little if any rain during the morning, the snowpack was only thawing very slowly. During the afternoon conditions became wetter, but with the freezing level dropped to close to the summit level there was some fresh damp snow on the highest tops.
Atmospheric views this morning with various layers of fog/cloud. You only get bands of fog like this when the wind is low (as it was this morning).
The top of the summit tow at 1200 metres. Yesterday morning this was covered in a layer of icy rime which had subsequently fallen off in the mild conditions.
Pretty desolate on the summit plateau. Visibility at this level was better than yesterday or the day before.
Looking down Easy Gully. It looks reasonably well filled in. However, it looks like snow cover will decrease a bit over the next few days.
Cornices. Although not as large or extensive as they can be, in a few locations some reasonable sized cornices exist. These may well collapse in the wet conditions expected this evening.
