Patches and Strips

11th December 2025

It remained mild but thankfully a fair bit drier than yesterday. The mild wet conditions of the past few days have taken it’s toll on the snowpack and what remains are patches and strips. A cooler and drier day tomorrow will hopefully allow for some better views of how much snow there is before some more turbulent weather arrives for the weekend.

It was clear when looking up Nevis Range this morning.

Looking up toward Carn Dearg. Not very much snow, but some good geology.  The red granite which makes up Carn Mor Dearg and much of Coire Leis has been transported down by water and ice and makes up the stream bank in the foreground. This contrasts with the darker greys  of the Andesite Lavas which make up the scree in the middle of the shot, and Carn Dearg Buttress beyond.

The view up into Coire na Ciste.

The Minus Face round to Observatory Gully.
