Cold and clear

30th December 2025

It was another beautiful day with sunshine and light winds. It was cold with sub zero temperatures at all elevations and little change in temperature with height. Lowest temperatures were in shady valleys and on higher summits with slightly warmer conditions in between.

The snowpack remains stable and very firm. Although snow cover is limited, the consequences of a trip, slip or fall remain serious.

Coire Sgorach on the Northern side of Sgurr a’ Mhaim. The snowpack remains very firm.

The Western end of the Mamores, Stob Ban and Mullach nan Coirean.

The Eastern end of the Mamores.

Ben Nevis, Carn Mor Dearg and Aonach Mor from the South. This is the less snowy side with better cover on Northern and Eastern aspects.

Looking down on a frosty Glen Nevis.

Icy paths remain a hazard.

Several days of crystal growth in a shady part of Glen Nevis.
