Another good day
29th December 2025
There was some doubt in my mind whether I’d get a view today as I headed up into a layer of cloud on Aonach Mor. Fortunately as I neared the summit plateau I reached the top of the cloud layer and the sun became visible. It was then mostly clear for the rest of the day with thin patchy cloud at summit level.
The temperature inversion that’s been present for the last few days moved away this morning. In a period of 6 hours the temperature at 1200 metres on Aonach Mor dropped by 6 degrees and the relative humidity increased from a very low 10 percent to a more normal 100 percent. These changes combined with a moderate East-North-Easterly wind made it feel pretty chilly.
The snowpack remains frozen hard in all locations and water ice is forming in many places with both of these presenting significant hazards.
Relative Humidity at 1200 metres on Aonach Mor. There was a rapid change this morning from the very dry air that’s been around for a few days to the more common 100 percent humidity.
This change in humidity happened as the temperature inversion layer moved away. There was a 6 degree drop in temperature at the same time.
