November Snow and Sunshine
30th November 2025
Today was special. One of those all too rare blue sky days, with light winds and perfect neve high up on the mountain for efficient travel in crampons. Clear skies overnight and summit temperatures around -5 degrees hardened the breakable crust from yesterday leaving firm and icy conditions on all aspects of the mountain above 900m. Below the now well developed 10cm of crust still lies some softer layers in steep locations on North to East aspects. These softer layers are well bridged below the melt freeze layer above. Forecast overnight snow on storm force Southerly winds will create a windslab problem on Northerly aspects during the night. Wind is expected to ease during the day tomorrow and the freezing level will rise to near summit levels.
