The Mamores

4th April 2025

Continuing high pressure brought another fine sunny day in Lochaber. Winds were stronger than expected first thing but eased through the day. Todays observations were from Sgurr a Mhaim in the Mamores, here it felt very much like summer with only a few small patches of avoidable snow. Its a challenge to spot the snow patches in todays photos ( I reckon all apart from 1 photo has a snow patch), this is the reality for much of the Lochaber area now. The only larger areas of snow that remain are in the highest gullies and coire rims on North to East facing slopes, generally above 1100 metres. In reality that is a few locations on Aonach Mor, Aonach Beag and Ben Nevis, photos of these locations in the previous days blogs. Where there is snow in gullies there is often loose scree  particularly on approach and in broken sections presenting a hazard. Any remaining snow will become firm overnight only softening where exposed to the sun.
