Cloudy and Windy

2nd March 2025

While it stayed dry today, there were gale force South-Westerly winds and the summits remained in cloud all day. Little change in the snowpack above 1100 metres with instabilities persisting in areas of windslab. Between around 1100 and 900 metres, slightly warmer temperatures yesterday followed by slightly colder ones today have created a surface melt/freeze crust. At lower elevations the snowpack is thawing.

Photos below from Ben Nevis.

Coire na Ciste was busy, although hard to tell how busy with most of the climbs in the cloud. Most people were putting crampons on in this area on the corrie floor, by the lochan.

The snowline is around the height of the CIC hut (675m).
