Help us help you

26th February 2025

There are 6 areas covered within SAIS with at least 6 forecasters out every day.  We aren’t computer programmes and gather information from observations and forecasts.  It is therefore impossible for us to be in every single venue all of the time and we appreciate members of the public reporting avalanches – you are our extra sets of eyes.  We gather this information, digest, investigate and hopefully feed information back into the public domain.

Please don’t be shy in reporting an avalanche – this can be done here.  Thank you to everybody who has done so in the past, it really does help us to help you.

Photos from today – yes, noted that this is the 3rd time we’ve been up Aonach Mòr but it is such a good venue for gaining height fast and seeing multiple aspects.  Different venue tomorrow, promise.

Morning views towards the Northern flank of Ben Nevis.

The obligatory SAIS boot with propagation within the snowpack. This was at 950m on a North aspect.

These footprints were created yesterday at around 10am. This morning they were now raised footprints which begs the question – where did all the snow go?

Looking down Forgotten Twin.

Cornices present on many North – South-East aspects in various sizes.
