Cold and Dry

4th January 2025

Today was cold and dry with fresh South-Westerly winds. Some of the soft snow drifted onto Easterly aspects during stronger Westerly winds yesterday morning, very little change today. A covering of soft snow at most elevations with some isolated pockets of windslab at the top of some steep slopes, notably where old snow remains underneath. Remaining cold, most of the snow showers over the next few days are likely to be in the North-West or further East and miss the Lochaber area.

A small avalanche in Easy Gully that most likely occurred during drifting yesterday morning. As windslab deposits are very localised, limited, shallow and avoidable and only a very small number of locations where they overlie old snow, the avalanche hazard is Low.

Some small but fragile cornices are present above Easterly aspects.

East aspects Carn Mor Dearg.

West aspects Aonach Mor
