Patchy snow cover

27th December 2024

The thaw continues and very patchy snow cover remains across the Loachaber area. Largest areas remain in the highest gullies and around  coire rims, generally above 1100 metres on North-East and East aspects. Photos from today show the remaining snow in these areas on Aonach Mor, I would expect snow cover in the gullies of the same height and aspect on Ben Nevis to be similar. Elsewhere very little if any snow remains.

Looking down Easy Gully on Aonach Mor, the top of this Gully is at 1200 metres.

Looking across the top of easy gully to the cliffs on North side, a little snow remains around the coire rim, and on the crag apron.

Looking round the coire rim of Coire Dubh. This photo is taken at 1100 metres, very little if any snow is present below this height.

Nevis Range ski area, the goose t-bar, this photo is more representative of snow cover across the area as a whole.

A ptarmigan using one of the very small snow patches on Aonach Mor for camouflage.
