Fresh snow
26th January 2024
It was nice to wake up to some snowy hills after fresh snow overnight above around 400 metres. It was a showery day with some bright spells but at higher elevations there was considerable drifting in the strong winds and it felt pretty wild. There was a slow rise in temperatures through the day but showers continued to fall as snow on the higher hills.
It will remain very windy through the weekend. See the avalanche report https://www.sais.gov.uk/lochaber/ for details of avalanche hazard.

It was very windy today. There was a lot of redistribution of lying snow as seen in the bottom right in this photo.

Temperatures from 1200 metres on Aonach Mor for the last 24 hours. Note the very sharp drop in temperature just after 23:00 as a cold front passed over.
