Temperature rollercoaster

The ups and downs in temperature at summit level over the last 5 days are shown in the graph below. Overall you might think that this isn’t too bad with temperatures below freezing for more time than above. Unfortunately however, while there were some light snow showers during the colder periods, the mild periods coincided with heavy rain and the loss of any earlier snow. Today was a good example of mild (4.6 degrees Celsius at 1200m at midday) and wet conditions washing away the very limited snow cover. Some pictures below showing river conditions – mainly rain with the small addition of the melting of the previous dusting of snow.

The outlook does look more promising with summit temperatures staying below freezing for a while and some snow from tomorrow morning onwards. Hopefully winter will eventually get here!
