Poor visibility

19th January 2023

There was poor visibility today, particularly during the snow showers. The cold weather continues and there is little change in the snowpack with instabilities in both recent and older windslab. Some photos from Ben Nevis below.

Ben Nevis this morning when the cloud base was around 1100 metres. This dropped to around 600 metres in showers during the day.

Looking West along Loch Eil.

Well camouflaged Ptarmigan.

The Castle gullies. The 2 climbers just visible at the bottom of the picture didn’t carry on upwards.

The bottom of North East buttress and Tower ridge.

Number 5 gullly

Looking down on the CIC hut.
