Cold with some fresh snow

7th April 2022

Today was cold with some fresh snow. Strong North Easterly winds overnight have scoured the gully tops and coire rims on most North to East aspects. Localised deposits of moderately bonded windslab remain on these aspects at lower elevations. Shallow deposits of fresh windslab will continue to develop on South-East and South aspects, however these will generally overlie bare ground.

The tops of most of the crags in Coire na Ciste have been scoured by the Strong North Easterly winds overnight.

Scouring at the top of Number 4 gully Ben Nevis.

Creag Coire na Ciste. Large cornices remain here. They are likely to remain stable through the cold period but become increasingly unstable when the temperature rises.

Looking into Coire na Ciste. There are some areas of windslab on the approaches. These can be avoided, above the slopes are generally firm and icy.

Douglas Boulder and Minus Face.
