Good Timing

3rd March 2020

It was a generally cloudy day with light winds and occasional snow showers. Fortunately we managed to be close to the summit of Aonach Mor when he sun came out.

There has been a lot of snow accumulation in the last week on many aspects. Some consolidation is starting to take place in the snowpack but instabilities persist.  Large fragile cornices are an additional hazard.

A very snowy Aonach Mor plateau.

Carn Mor Dearg nearly visible.

Aonach Beag from near Aonach Mor summit.

A fine spot for some digging (top of Summit Gully, Aonach Mor).

Summit Gully, Aonach Mor. We chose a route down to avoid the steepest sections and stayed on a ridge where a steep section was unavoidable. Further details on safe travel in the winter mountains available at http://beaware.sais.gov.uk
