Aonach Mor: Coire Dubh

28th February 2019

Today I wandered around the North end of Aonach an Nid hoping to get some decent views.  However, the cloud didn’t help.

Coire Dubh.

Ptarmigan. I saw quite a few Ptarmigan today, all looking very obvious on the mainly snow-free ground.  They were all behaving much more warily than is normally the case (when there is good snow cover), taking flight when I got within around 40 metres. Their winter camouflage is not much help to them when there is so little snow and they will be much more obvious to their predators.
