More snow! (and rain and wind…..)

14th February 2018

More of a traditional day in Lochaber today with some very strong winds and heavy precipitation falling as rain below around 500m. All in all a fairly miserable time. On the plus side (depending on your point of view), there is loads more new (and very unstable) snow above 800m with some further significant accumulations expected over the next 24 hours. There is the increasing potential for some fairly large avalanches due to sheer volume of fresh snow at higher elevations, especially in the steeper gullies. Probably not the best place to head for until it starts to settle down, which won’t be for a few days yet!

Some damp people retreating from the CIC hut earlier today!
