All Change

29th February 2016

The recent period of good weather ended today with strong Southerly winds, clouds and rising temperatures, although it remained mainly dry.

The fresh windslab formed from redistributed snow mixed with some fresh snow is sitting on a layer of soft faceted snow in many sheltered places. Long propagating cracks are easily formed and slab avalanches are easily triggered in these conditions.

Long propagating cracks - a sure sign of instability.
